In the run-up to the 37th edition of the “Karel Stegeman Toernooi”, now renamed “PLUS Stam KST”, the Scandinavian teams were counted among the major contenders.
On the first day of the tournament, these teams partially fulfilled these expectations.
In the Sturris group, Danish Silkeborg IF (as the only one) has taken full credit, 6 points from 2 games, and in the Boni group, the winner of the KST 2022 seemed to match this achievement, but the Swedes suffered after a 1-0 lead in the last group match, a surprising defeat against the team of VV Ruurlo, 2-1 (photo). Halmstads BK is now joint second with AC Horsens, KV Mechelen and VV Ruurlo with 3 points.
Also in the group of Silkeborg IF, four teams are tied for second place. Kalmar FF, NAC Breda, Union Saint-Gilloise and FC Groningen have 3 points.
Both Hapoel Be’er Sheva and RTS Widzew Lódz are at the bottom of their respective group, but given the position in their group, they certainly have a chance.
