From the start of the Karel Stegeman Toernooi in 1985, Harry has been involved in our tournament as a member of the grounds committee. That the complex was in optimal condition during the Pentecost weekend was in good hands with Harry. Far before the start of the tournament, Harry was busy taking care of everything down to the last detail. During the tournament, he was working on match days before the first guests arrived and also after the matches had ended, to promote “his” tournament and the complex to the outside world as best as possible. After the tournament, it was all hands on deck to return the ‘t Rikkelder sports park to its former state.
Harry was such a silent force from which every organization, including our tournament, benefits enormously. Never in the spotlight and never afraid to go the extra mile without complaining.
Although his health in recent years did not allow Harry to do what he actually wanted to do, he continued to provide the necessary assistance where possible and to provide us with tips, always positively critical.
Harry passed away last Sunday, at the end of January he would have been 77 years old.
We will especially miss him as a person, but also a great clubman and a friend of the tournament.
We wish his family and friends a lot of strength in coping with this great loss.
